Introduction

This five-day course teaches practical skills for preventing injuries and managing workplace safety. It focuses on hazard recognition, risk assessment, control selection and incident response. Sessions combine short theory, workplace examples and hands-on exercises. Participants leave with usable documents and clear steps to improve safety performance.

Objectives

1. Identify common workplace hazards and estimate risk levels using a standard risk-assessment method.
2. Apply the hierarchy of controls and select appropriate control measures for specific tasks.
3. Plan and perform workplace inspections; record findings and track corrective actions.
4. Create clear safe work procedures, permit-to-work and lockout/tagout steps for routine tasks.
5. Lead initial incident response and carry out a basic incident investigation; complete reports and corrective action plans.
